Varjo
Varjo was founded in 2016 by experienced product leaders and innovators with a background in developing high-end technology and innovations at Nokia, Microsoft, and NVIDIA. Varjo founders had a vision of seamlessly merging the virtual and real worlds with human-eye resolution virtual and mixed reality.
Creatively Technical
I worked hands on with prototype headsets to build out designs in Unity and Unreal. We had to come up with creative and simple solutions to very technical challenges.
Iterating with industrial designers on headset comfort, running UX studies with research team for eye tracking, taking my prototypes to final implementation with devs. The work span all areas of design and pushed my technical abilities.
It was a continuous loop of hands-on experimentation and testing to figure out what works in the mixed reality world.
Merging Two Worlds
When I joined Varjo, it was still a very early stage startup. There was no UI / UX built out, and the brand was just starting to be developed.
I came on as a multidisciplinary visual designer, responsible for everything from designing the in headset UI, creating the virtual home worlds, and helping to develop the brand into something that feels high-end and recognizable.
This was years before Apple Vision Pro came out and was at the cutting edge of technology at the time.
